Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Degree Information
California State University, Fullerton is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program is currently applying to theCAATEfor a change in level of degree and is pending approval.
The CSUF Athletic Training Program (ATP) is a full-time professional program that prepares students to become athletic trainers (AT). The American Medical Association recognizes athletic training as a healthcare profession. Students will complete traditional didactic coursework and concurrent clinical education experiences, emphasizing clinical reasoning skills that encompass the prevention, diagnosis and intervention of emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities.
The mission of the California State University, Fullerton Athletic Training Program is to mentor students to become exceptional healthcare professionals and leaders within the athletic training profession. The program is dedicated to preparing students for employment as certified athletic trainers within a diverse community by emphasizing patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, and professionalism.

- Highly-Qualified Faculty: Students admitted to the MSAT degree learn from a faculty of nationally known teachers, clinicians and scholars. Our students also learn from and interact with a group of experienced health care providers throughout their graduate education. With 13 full-time and numerous part-time AT employed at CSUF, our limited-enrollment program allows for an outstanding student-to-faculty ratio. Our AT students regularly interrelate with some of Southern California’s best sports health care professionals.
- Outstanding Resources: MSAT students experience state-of-the-art labs with the latest technologies in clinical health care and research. Our students gain experience in numerous labs including the Nursing Simulation Center, Movement Analysis lab, Sport Psychology lab, and Athletic Training labs. Additionally, students learn in the Titan AT Clinic, our Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation Center, our physicians’ offices, as well as our local high school, college, and professional sports clinics.
- Reputation for Excellence: The first Titan AT student graduated in 1978 and the strong tradition continues through today. With over 250 alumni, Cal State Fullerton continues to prepare high-quality, professional, and dedicated athletic trainers.
